Track FAQs

Q. What is track?
A. CYO track is an outdoor sport that focuses on two types of races --- relays and dashes. Our teams compete against other CYO track teams in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and as a result we will need to travel to the meets.

Q. Who can join?
A. Track teams are assigned by grade and gender. Teams start at kindergarten and continue up through the 8th grade.
Q. How can I register my child?
A. Registration can be done by mail or online at www.stjoecyosports.com. Information can also be found in Our Place,Pennysaver. Registration flyers are also distributed in local area schools. Once a registration form is submitted, your child is placed on a roster and you should be contacted by a coach to let you know about practice dates and times and locations. Each season we will also hold a Kickoff practice for all teams as well as give you an opportunity to register and/or buy uniforms.
Q. What is the 3rd child free discount?
A. If you have three children who participate in track within a given season (fall or spring), you pay for the first two children and there is no fee for the third child.
Q. Is there a uniform?
A. Yes. The uniform consists of a track shirt, navy blue shorts and sneakers. There is a $25-dollar fee for uniform (shirt and shorts). Special track shoes are not required for CYO track. No jewelry should be worn.
Q. Is there a practice schedule?
A. Practices are either at Sequoya Middle School on Waverly Avenue in Holtsville or Seneca Middle School on Main Street in Holbrook. Each team has two practices per week for approximately one hour. Inclement weather and school closings sometimes force changes to the schedule. The coach will let you know where and when your team practices.
